Building a scent wardrobe allows you to mix and match fragrances to suit your mood, an event, or the season. Many of us have a signature scent we often go to or a perfume we save for special occasions. But by curating a library of fragrances you love, you can choose a scent to reflect how you feel in the moment. With National Fragrance Day (21st March 2025) just around the corner, now’s the perfect chance to learn how to build your scent wardrobe.
Essential scents
Fragrances are personal and represent your taste, so your scent wardrobe is all about what you like. It’s best to start building it with two essential scents – one for every day and another for events or occasions. From there, you can start thinking about how you’d like to expand your repertoire.
Seasonal scents
Scents often feel like they fit with a particular season. A fragrance you’d typically wear in summer (vibrant and fresh) or spring (floral and bright) is likely to be quite different from what you’d pick in winter (rich and inviting) or autumn (warm and spicy). For this reason, you might extend your scent wardrobe by selecting a go-to scent for each season.
Our Fragrance Mists are excellent options to start building your scent selection based on seasons. We love spritzing No. 3 in summer, No. 2 in autumn, No. 1 in winter, and No. 0 in spring.
Fragrance Mists, $20 for 90ml or $45 for 240ml.
Scent families
Another way to add to your scent wardrobe is to have options corresponding with the scent families you’re drawn to. The families are amber, aromatic, chypre, citrus, floral, leather, and woody; fragrance notes sit within these groups. For example, vanilla is in the amber family, orchid belongs to the floral family, and sandalwood sits within the woody family. You might wish to grow your scent wardrobe by adding fragrances across multiple scent families.

Mix and match
Once you’ve designed your scent wardrobe – by the season, scent family, or moods – you can experiment with layering to create custom fragrances. There are no rules, however, it’s best to pair similar scents together. This prevents them from clashing or overpowering each other.
