Building a scent wardrobe allows you to mix and match fragrances to suit your mood, an event, or the season. Many of us have a signature scent we often go to or a perfume we save for special occasions. But by curating a library of fragrances you love, you can choose a scent to reflect how you feel in the moment. With National Fragrance Day (21st March 2025) just around the corner, now’s the perfect chance to learn how to build your scent wardrobe. Essential scents Fragrances are personal and represent your taste, so your scent wardrobe is all about what you like. It’s best to start building it with two essential scents – one for every day and another for events or occasions. From there, you can start thinking about how you’d like to expand your repertoire. Seasonal scents Scents often feel like they fit with a particular season. A fragrance you’d typically wear in summer (vibrant and fresh) or spring (floral and bright) is likely to be quite different from what you’d pick in winter (rich and inviting) or autumn (warm and spicy). For this reason, you might extend your scent wardrobe by selecting a go-to scent for each season. Our Fragrance Mists are excellent options to start building your scent selection based on seasons. We love spritzing No. 3 in summer, No. 2 in autumn, No. 1 in winter, and No. 0 in spring. Fragrance Mists, $20 for 90ml or $45 for 240ml. Scent families Another way to add to your scent wardrobe is to have options corresponding with the scent families you’re drawn to. The families are amber, aromatic, chypre, citrus, floral, leather, and woody; fragrance notes sit within these groups. For example, vanilla is in the amber family, orchid belongs to the floral family, and sandalwood sits within the woody family. You might wish to grow your scent wardrobe by adding fragrances across multiple scent families. Mood boosters Fragrances can reflect or influence your mood. Some days you might want to embody calmness and confidence; others you might feel cheeky and charismatic. However you want to express yourself, we have a Fragrance Mist to suit: Light and fresh mists to energise your day Fragrance Mist No.3: Sweet Blossom, Tropical Essence, and Lychee. Fragrance Mist No.6: Coconut Milk, Vanilla, and White Florals. Fragrance Mist No.7: Sweet Guava, Fresh Coconut, and Warm Orchid. Romantic, floral mists to feel fabulous Fragrance Mist No.0: Vanilla, Sandalwood, and Violet Orchid. Fragrance Mist No.3: Sweet Blossom, Tropical Essence, and Lychee. Fragrance Mist No.6: Coconut Milk, Vanilla, and White Florals. Warm and comforting mists for indulgence Fragrance Mist No.1: Black Plum, Vanilla, and Musk. Fragrance Mist No.2: Pistachio, Sandalwood, Caramel, and Vanilla. Fragrance Mist No.4: Burnt Caramel, Toasted Macadamia, White Chocolate, and Sea Salt Flakes. Fragrance Mists, $20 for 90ml or $45 for 240ml. Mix and match Once you’ve designed your scent wardrobe – by the season, scent family, or moods – you can experiment with layering to create custom fragrances. There are no rules, however, it’s best to pair similar scents together. This prevents them from clashing or overpowering each other.

3 (very important) reasons to use sunscreen daily Protecting your skin from the sun is the number one thing you can do to keep it looking and feeling healthy. You can use as many MCoBeauty skincare products as you like but if you’re not using sunscreen daily, you’re not doing your skin any favours. To celebrate National Sunscreen Day (May 27), we’re sharing three ways that using SPF benefits your skin – if you still need convincing! 1. May help prevent skin cancersThere are three main kinds of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma (BCC), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and melanoma, which is known to be the most dangerous form. To help reduce your likelihood of developing skin cancer, applying sunscreen is one way to protect your skin. Other preventative measures include wearing sun-protective clothing (plus a hat and sunnies) and seeking shade whenever possible. For your SPF to be most effective, apply a generous amount of it 20 minutes before going outside. You should also follow the directions carefully, as they specify how often to re- apply. We love using our Super Glow Invisible Face Serum SPF 50 in the morning and then topping up with our Super Glow Invisible Face Mist SPF 50+ throughout the day. 2. May help reduce visible signs of ageingExposure to the sun’s rays is linked to visible skin concerns, fast-tracking the signs of ageing. UV damage is accumulative and doesn’t appear instantly. Your skin may look good now, but damage from sun exposure could pop up months or even years later. UVA and UVB rays both have harmful effects but reach different layers of the skin. UVA rays penetrate deeply into your dermis layer, negatively impacting the collagen and elastin in your skin. UVB rays (associated with sunburn) can impact the epidermal layers of your skin, as well as potentially causing irreversible DNA damage. Both kinds of UV exposure can speed up the development of noticeable fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, dullness, and loss of elasticity. So, if you want to keep your skin looking beautiful and healthy (of course you do), wearing broad-spectrum sunscreen on your face and body daily is a must. 3. May help protect your skin from photosensitivitySome active ingredients in your skincare routine can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Retinol and most alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are known to be photosensitising, so if you use any products with these ingredients, you must be extra diligent with applying sunscreen. Vitamin C isn’t photosensitising; however, UV exposure can degrade the effectiveness of this antioxidative ingredient. When you use a Vitamin C-infused product during the day, wear sunscreen to make sure you’re getting the most out of it.

Makeup artist, influencer and MAFs icon Janelle Han knows a thing or two about looking your best when you’re in front of a camera. While not all of us will appear on TV, the methods for a sculpted television appearance are the same for everyday events – especially if there are going to be photos taken. And, when you think about it, when was the last time you went to an event and did not get a photo? After applying her base products (for an in-depth guide on acing a luminous base click here), she jumps straight into adding dimension. Using the Instant Contour Cream Bronzer, Han applies it “all over the cheekbones [and] the jawline.” A lot of people don’t realise, Han says, is that “you have to do the nose.” If you do the rest of your face, but not the nose “your face is going to look really one dimensional and it’s not going to look even.” She blends the contour up her nose all the way to her brows to give a seamless illusion. For cheeks, forehead and jaws, Han recommends the “3 and E technique.” By applying your contour in the shape of a three or capital E, you will apply a balanced amount of contour to your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline for instant and easy sculpt, for every face type. To get the perfect natural sculpt, she recommends doing “a mix of patting and blending” to buff the contour into the skin. If you have ever had your makeup professionally done, you may notice that they put on a LOT of blush, which Han tells us is due to the simple fact that “it fades so much on camera.” Using the Highlight & Glow Wand in Blush Glow, she applies it to her cheeks and to “melt [it] seamlessly into the cream contour, [she] uses the exact same brush so it kind of melts the products together.” If there is any remaining product left on her brush, Han will gently dab it onto the centre of her nose. Han’s go-to look is a bronzed look that “almost looks wet.” To get the look she uses the Highlight & Glow Wand in Bronze Glow on top of the cheekbones before tapping it into the blush. To amp up the dimension, she will “go back in with the contour and add a little bit more. Just a bit!” Using our new Luminous Highlighter Pen, Han goes back in to define any areas that she wants to look bright and refreshed, saying that “this makes such a difference to how polished your makeup can look.” The final step in her routine? “Baking! This is going to stop you from looking oily in photos and just make your skin look like its glowy in all the areas you want it to be.” Not only does this allow the highlighted areas to literally shine, it also helps to set your makeup. Have you ever found yourself wondering what a toner actually does? And how to correctly use one in your skincare routine? What about AHAs and BHAs? What do they stand for and what do they actually do? Well you’ve come to the right place. We’ve got all your answers here. What is a toner? Toners are either water or alcohol-based skincare products that have a very lightweight consistency and contain active ingredients. Traditionally, they were created to remove excess oil from the skin and were catered to people who had blemish-prone skin. This means, back in the day, they used to be more on the drying side. However, skincare formulations have come a long way and today’s updated, next-generation toners contain a variety of anti-ageing, brightening and soothing ingredients that are designed to nourish and replenish the skin after cleansing. Toners have been created to assist in the cleansing process because they do a variety of wonderful things. This method of exfoliation uses chemical exfoliants to give the skin a deep clean, remove dead skin cells and impurities, smooth skin texture, and improves the absorption of other skincare products. Enter our very own AHA/BHA Pore Refining Exfoliating Toner. Our toner uses a unique triple chemical exfoliant blend of salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and lactic acid to work together and dissolve the day's impurities, minimise the appearance of pores and fight breakouts to reveal fresh and radiant skin. What does AHA and BHA mean? We know how important it is to understand what you’re putting on your skin. By now, you’ve probably seen these acronyms floating around, and chances are you’ve already used them in your skincare. Hydroxy acids refer to the categories of acids available in the skincare world. Putting acids on your skin may sound terrifying at first, but don’t worry - they’re not as scary as they sound! They are two classes of hydroxy acids - Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs). They’re divided into these categories because they treat different concerns for the skin. Neither type is considered to be ‘better’, as both are highly effective in terms of deep exfoliation - the difference lies within their use. Next to using sunscreen every day, the incorporation of an AHA or BHA (or both) in your skincare is key to maintaining a healthy, clear and hydrated complexion. What are AHAs? There are a few differing hydroxy acids available in the Alpha Hydroxy Acid family. Each is made from varying ingredients and does different things. They’re a group of natural acids, usually found in foods. When applied to the skin, AHAs work by exfoliating the top layers of dead skin to repair dry, aging and sun-damaged skin to reveal fresh, softer, and firmer skin. An additional benefit of removing this build-up is enhancing the efficacy of the next steps in your skincare routine, allowing serums and moisturisers to penetrate the skin more deeply. Glycolic Acid: Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane. It’s great for treating pigmentation, light scarring, fine lines and dullness. Specifically, glycolic acid works by loosening the bonds that hold together the top layers of dead skin cells. By removing these layers, newer and healthier skin emerges. Lactic Acid: Derived mostly from milk, lactic acid is the gentler, more tolerable member of the AHA family. It works well with sensitive skin, is great for anti-aging and can help boost overall hydration. What are BHAs? Beta Hydroxy Acids work to get deeper into the pores to remove dead skin cells and excess sebum. They have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and are great at treating blemish-prone skin and blackheads. There’s only one BHA that’s commonly used when it comes to skincare, and that’s salicylic acid. Salicylic Acid Salicylic acid occurs naturally in sweet birch and willow bark. Thanks to its molecular structure, it can get deeper into the skin’s layers to assist with dissolving and unclogging pores of debris and help treat blackheads. It’s a well-known ingredient to help with blemishes and problem skin, as well as assisting in calming redness and irritation.
